Within the last four days, the nation has been recording fewer cases of newly confirmed COVID-19 infections, as Sunday’s daily tally gave credence to this with just 304 confirmed new cases of the disease.
The new statistics also revealed a sharp drop in the number of states responsible for the spread of new infections, as only 15 states were listed as against the former over 20 states usually highlighted for new confirmed cases.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, announced via its verified Twitter handle that 5 new dealths were also recorded on Sunday, making a total deaths of 888 since the outbreak od the infection in Nigeria.
The health agency also disclosed that Nigeria has 43841 cases of the infection, while 20308 cases have been discharged, recorded from 36 states and the FCT.
It tweeted thus : On the 2nd of August 2020, 304 new confirmed cases and 5 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
“Till date, 43841 cases have been confirmed, 20308 cases have been discharged and 888 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory”.
While there have been surges at the FCT over a couple of days ago, as the daily leading position resolves around it and Lagos, the situation hasn’t changed as the statua quo still holds with Lagos leading with 81 and FCT 39.
Other states are :Abia -31, Kaduna- 24, Rivers-23 Plateau-16, Cross River-13, Ebonyi and Ondo 12 respectively, Ekiti and Edo, 11 each, Benue -10, Nasarawa- 10, Ogun 6 and Gombe.

Meanwhile, on the international scene, over 200,000 people have reportedly died from Coronavirus in Latin America and the Caribbean, with Brazil and Mexico accounting for nearly three-quarters of those deaths, according to an AFP tally compiled from official sources at 0830 GMT on Sunday.
The number of fatalities stood at 200,212 in Latin America and the Caribbean, out of a total 4,919,054 reported cases. The death total doubled in just over a single month.
Latin America is the second hardest-hit region in the world after Europe, which has recorded 210,425 deaths and 3,189,322 infections, AFP update revealed.
